what to take on a pilgrimage

i'm not a list maker. at all. but in about 345 days i want to be on the Camino. i need to plan. mostly because weight matters.

1. 3 under dresses
2. 2 over dresses
3. a wool hood/capelet thing-y
4. leather bag
5. socks--hand knit or commercial?
6 bicycle shorts to avoid chafing
7. modern undies
8. camera
9. cell phone
10. a passport (i need to get one pronto)

  1. Marwen here... This is so cool! Are you going to do this in garb?

I might think about sewing a pocket into the inside of my dresses, or having a separate pocket or money pouch, for my passport and money.

Otherwise, small toiletry kit? ziploc baggies of a few sizes for unexpected stuff - carry food along for snacks, deal with wet/dirty items, etc. Also, maybe a small horn or wooden cup?

  2. good thoughts. i'll need some toiletries for sure, altho i intend, for example, on mostly keeping my hair braided, and not washing it too often. i'm thinking some sort of "slit" in my skirt to allow access to a pouch on a belt or something would be good for passport and money.

ziplocks are apparently a definite. also a roll of toilet tissue. i'm thinking some sort of water skin? i don't know anything about leather bottles or water skins, but i'm thinking that's a good plan.

  3. I would also suggest some sort of journal - I know you'll have your phone, but the act of writing things down can be helpful, and you may not always be able to charge your phone...
